History of COD

Before you can understand anything I say about the current state of Call Of Duty you need to understand what I think about the past, or history of Call Of Duty. The first Call Of Duty came out back in 2003 but those CODs looked very different from what we now play.

Personally I think the era of modern Call of Duty started back in 2009 with Modern warfare 2. This is because at this time levelling up became more sought-after, the more camos you had became more prestigious, Esports competitions became more prevalent, and many more elements saw their debut at that time which we see very much of today.

For the most part Call Of Duty has always been a game to hop on to after school and have fun with your friends. This sort of culture has stayed consistent for years because Activision (the games developer) has been reliable in evolving COD. For example how we have seen CODs from all different historical eras such as the 1910s, 2060s and every epoch in between. This is what made Call Of Duty fun for many, not knowing whether they would be running around killing people, or flying around with a jetpack killing people.

“Modern” Call Of Duty has always been so playable because of how balanced the game was. “Balanced” means there is no one gun, or set of guns better than another, no one perk which is exceedingly better than another… This balance let players express themselves in the game. If you wanted to use snipers then you could because you could compete against me using an assault rifle, and I could compete against an opponent using a shotgun. Succinctly in the “modern” Call Of Duty era players played for fun, played however they wanted to play without penalty, and the game was always releasing new material.

Since this post was rooted in the history of Call Of Duty I think it is only appropriate to ask my audience what their favorite part of the COD history was, which game? For those who may have just started playing recently, if you could, which COD would you go back and play in its heyday? Comment your pick.

  1. Throughout my reading, it genuinely seemed like you knew your topic really well and were familiar with it because you have been playing COD for 8 years! I loved the way you started with the history of COD with proof and how it developed throughout the years thanks to Activision. Adding to that, I liked the appealing images you picked, especially the one showing the difference between 2018 and 2003 that supported your history section and made your blog more creative, as well as interesting!

  2. I find it very interesting that you wrote your blog about Call of duty. What a great idea since it’s a game that we all play but we don’t know much about it. I find it very cool how you explained the history of the game and you compared the game versions over the last 19 years. To finish, I appreciated how you added the reasons you like the game and why it’s your favourite. Great job!
